Journalling for confidence and self-esteem

 

A Simple, yet powerful way to increase your confidence

Keeping a journal is a powerful way to help build your confidence and self-esteem.

Regularly writing your thoughts down. Getting them out of your head and onto paper, has so many benefits that you’d be mad not to try it!

confidence journalYour conscious mind can only hold around seven chunks of information at any one time. If any of those chunks are inconsequential to your tasks for the day, get ’em outta your head! Make some space for the important things.

It’s something I’ve done everyday, for years.

Sometimes the things I write are just useless thoughts. Rubbish that’s taking up room in my brain. But, the habit of emptying your mind onto paper every day, allows you to make space for 7 chunks of useful, confidence building information.

Another positive reason to do it, is that there’s no right, or wrong way to write a journal. Only what’s right for you.

How you do it is up to you

In 2015, I completely changed the way I use mine.  Originally, I would sit down in the evening and write everything I could remember about the day in my paper journal.

The problem for me, was I wanted to clear my mind DURING the day, not just last thing at night. And carrying a paper journal just wasn’t going to work for me.

So, I tried a few different digital journal apps;

Journey App — Journey (Android & iOS),

Day One App — Day One (Android & iOS) and

RedNotebook AppRedNoteBook. (which runs on all three desktop platforms).

All were great in their own right, but I really wanted something that I could use for other things as well.

Because of that, I finally decided on

Evernote App — Evernote.

All of these apps are free. So give them all a go and see which one works best for you.

Nowadays, I open my Evernote ‘journal’ folder as soon as I get up. I make a note of how I feel, what my plans for the day are, and what I hope to achieve.

Then, I can add to that entry at any time during the day. In the evening, I spend a few minutes noting down what went well, what I can improve and any next steps.

By writing all the small successes in your journal, you’ll soon start to realize just how much you’re capable of. Every little success helps build you confidence and self-esteem.

Obviously, there are many other ways of building your confidence and self-esteem. But, it’s amazing how much can be gained from this small, seemingly inconsequential task.

Is it difficult?

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never written in a journal before. Even if you’ve no idea what to write about, or if you don’t think you’ll do it everyday.

They say it takes approximately three weeks of regular, repeated action for something like this to become a habit. So, why not try it for three weeks and see what happens!
