Simple things that make a difference

Productivity and confidence, is as much effected by your mental attitude as by your natural abilities. You can know everything there is to know about a subject, but if your mind isn’t willing to play, progress will be slow and painful!

Here are some simple tips to help you remain on track.

What's the best time for you? 1.   You’ll generally be most productive at one particular point in the day. Some people are ‘early birds‘, others are ‘night owls‘, for some, it might be the after lunch. The trick is to Identify the most productive part of the day for you and organise your tasks accordingly.

2.    Make sure you do your most important work when you’re most productive.

3.    Productivity isn’t just about quantity. The best time for you may be when you’re most creative, or focussed. Again organise your tasks to fit this time.

4.    Learn to recognise how your subconscious mind shows you ideas, or concepts. That way, you’ll be prepared to take action when they arise.

5.    Always make sure you’ve got the information you need for a particular project. Remember that what you NEED is quite often very different from what you’d LIKE. As long as you have what you need, you can gather what you’d like as you progress.

Find what you need6.    If you reach a block and things don’t seem to be progressing, take time to analyse why. Is there more information you need, have you lost motivation, or perspective, etc. When you find out what you need, you can start to fix it, rather than just trying to push through blindly.

7.    Write down ideas, thoughts and concepts when they occur, even if it’s in the middle of the night. Many people keep a notebook and pencil on their bedside table.

8.    Take time each day to take stock. Spend a few minutes checking that what you’re doing is actually progressing the project. It’s very easy to get side-tracked without thinking about the possible implications.

9.    Think about, and analyse your past success and also, if things aren’t going to plan, identify any similar failures in the past. That way, you can use the lessons productively in the present.

10.    At the end of each day, make a list of priorities for the following day. That way, you’re prepared and ready to start.
